Tennessee Sports

Nashville is home to a variety of sports teams from professional, semi-pro, college and amateur levels. The Tennessee Titans are part of the NFL and play at LP Field in downtown Nashville. The team, formerly the Houston Oilers, came to Tennessee in 1997 and became the Titans in 1999.

The Nashville Predators are part of the NHL and play at Bridegstone Arena in downtown Nashville. The team began as an expansion team for the NHL in 1997 in Nashville. The team enjoys a strong following in "Smashville" during the regualr season.

For college fans, Nashville has Tennessee State University, Middle Tennessee University (in Murfreesboro) and Vanderbilt University each with strong athletic programs and national recognition.

Nashville is also home to the Nashville Sounds, the minor league affilliate for the Milwaukee Brewers since 2005. Plans are in place to build a new stadium for the Sounds near downtown Nashville. The Sounds began in 1978 affiliated with the Cincinatti Reds and have been affiliated with the New York Yankees (80-84), Detroit Tigers (85-86), Cincinatti Reds again (87-92), White Sox (93-97), and the Pittsburgh Pirates (98-04).

Sports photography is a specialty that usually has a high dollar return which in turn makes acquisition of photos more difficult for this project. The few photos in the gallery are credited when due.
